Hwy 410 or the Mather Highway is named after the first lead of the National Park System, Stephen Mather. Hwy 410 goes past Mt. Rainier and two old growth Douglas Fir campgrounds, The Dalles and Silver Springs in the Mt. Baker - Snoqualmie Forest before heading over the Chinook Pass and heading over to the dry side and pine covered slopes of the east side of the Cascades in the Wenatchee National Forest. Although all the campgrounds along this road are excellent examples of the east side drier climate camping, the most popular of the campsites are those on Bumping Lake. All the campgrounds are 60% reservable, so you should try to arrive early if you want to camp on the weekend, but great campsites and easily available midweek and if you are able try to make your longer vacations mostly on the midweek days.
